Meet the KAMS Staff: Dr. Paul Adams


So you can get to know all of us at KAMS at little better, we’re posting short 10 question Q&As with questions devised by Jeffrey Stramel, a FHSU student working for us at the Science and Mathematics Education Institute.  The first of these interviews is with Dr. Paul Adams.  Look for more interviews in the coming days and weeks.

1. What is your name? 

Dr. Paul Adams

2.  What is your current position/title? 

Anschutz Professor of Education, Professor of Physics, & Director of the Science & Mathematics Education Institute

3.  Tell me a little about your position & how you’re involved with KAMS. 

KAMS is a program within the Science & Mathematics Education Institute

4.  What are some of your favorite hobbies/pastime activities? 

Astronomy, Scouts, SciFi reading

5.  Who is your favorite Author and what is your favorite book? 

R.A. Heinlein – Have Spacesuit, Will Travel

6.  What degrees have you acquired & from where? 

B.S., Physics & math, Heidelberg College in Tiffin Ohio;

M.S., Physics, Washington State University in Pullman, WA; and

PhD, Science Education, Purdue University in W. Lafayette, IN

7.  What piece of technology do you think has the most potential to change the future? 

Cell phone morphing into a smart phone

8.  What are some things you would say to a potential KAMS student to further their interest? 

Practice, Perseverance, Patience

9.  What is your favorite thing about Fort Hays State University and why? 

Opportunities to explore & grow — there are few places in the world where you can do this.

10.  Has Hays always been your permanent residence?  If not, where have you lived? 

No.  Ohio, Kansas, Indiana, and the back of my truck!
