Meet The KAMS Staff: Mr. Ron Keller

So you can get to know all of us at KAMS at little better, we’re posting short 10 question Q&As with questions devised by Jeffrey Stramel, a FHSU student working for us at the Science and Mathematics Education Institute.  This is the second of these interviews with the Director of KAMS, Mr. Ron Keller.  Look for more interviews in the coming days and weeks.

1. What is your name? 

Ron Keller

2.  What is your current position/title? 

Director, Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science

3.  Tell me a little about your position & how you’re involved with KAMS. 

I serve as the director of the Academy.  This year that includes wearing many hats with various responsibilities.

4.  What are some of your favorite hobbies/pastime activities? 

Family, Nature, collecting marbles, Indian artifacts, magic, & Ducks Unlimited.

5.  Who is your favorite Author and what is your favorite book? 

The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman

6.  What degrees have you acquired & from where? 

B.S., Kansas State University;

M.S., Kansas State University; and

Administration Certificate, Northwestern Oklahoma State University. 

7.  What piece of technology do you think has the most potential to change the future? 

Nanotechnology

8.  What are some things you would say to a potential KAMS student to further their interest? 

Phenomenal opportunity, excellent campus, great research opportunities, and fantastic community.

9.  What is your favorite thing about Fort Hays State University and why? 

Friendly atmosphere — I have not met a single faculty member or student on campus that are not willing to stop and visit.

10.  Has Hays always been your permanent residence?  If not, where have you lived? 

No.  Northwest and Southwest Kansas.
