An Update From The KAMS Director

Update from the KAMS Director

The Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science staff are really looking forward to having students and parents come to the FHSU campus this Saturday morning, December 6th, for the KAMS “Preview Day”.

We have 162 students and parents registered for the day. We currently have sixteen applications in and of the 49 students attending the day, thirteen of those have their applications in to the Academy. With those students who have turned in applications and those who are attending, we have a potential of 52 applicants. From the information sessions around the state, I am sure we have many other students working on submitting an application.

One of the highlights of “Preview Day” will be the round-robin sessions with faculty and student researchers. The faculty is excited about meeting everyone and sharing information about their departments. The campus tour will also be a highlight and we are eager to have FHSU leaders address the group.

We want to thank you in advance for your support of KAMS. If you were at the information sessions, I look forward to seeing you again. If you could not attend an earlier information session, we look forward to meeting you for the first time.

The Academy remains the premier educational opportunity for high school students. The KAMS students will achieve great things through this phenomenal education. The students will benefit in a huge way by obtaining 72 hours of college credit. They will be placing themselves in a unique position to accomplish a great deal at an early age and in their career. The research component that goes along with this Academy program will positively impact the condition of Kansas and its future economy. It will be awesome to have the opportunity to educate our states’ best and brightest students and the potential to have them build careers in the state. There is no doubt what direction this could lead to for the future of our state. It is exciting and rewarding to be able to be a part of this experience.

We have high expectations in the future of the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science at Fort Hays State University. With your support we will make a difference and will make great things happen.

We are looking forward to seeing you on this Saturday, December 6th for the KAMS “Preview Day”.
