Math & Science Are Keys To Success
Last week the Trends in International Mathematics & Science Study (TIMSS), the world’s largest study of science and math achievement, was released. While 4th & 8th graders in the United States have improved in mathematics, improvements in science have stagnated since the mid-90s. Several Asian countries again lead the world in math and science achievement, outperforming the United States.
Given the importance of mathematics and science to economic competitiveness and research in an increasingly global economy, programs like the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science are crucial. Students who excel in math and science will have those skills fully developed so that they can become the leaders of tomorrow ensuring that the United States, and especially Kansas, does not fall behind.
