Update From The KAMS Director

KAMS Director Update

January 9, 2009

The New Year is off and running at the Academy!! The staff at KAMS is excited about the New Year and the prospect of our first class of students in August.

We, as of January 8th, have 31 applicants to the Academy and we know that many other students are working hard to get their applications in by the January 20th postmark deadline.  If you are still working on your application, I encourage you to take some time out and complete it soon. We are thrilled with the prospective students that we have for the Academy.

The KAMS staff is diligently working to get everything in place for the arrival of the ’09 “Pioneer” class. Attendance at the Academy will be a phenomenal educational experience for the students. KAMS staff, university administration, university faculty, and other FHSU staff are eagerly awaiting the arrival of students. Fort Hays State University is a premier learning institution. There are many outstanding events taking place at the University on a daily basis. The atmosphere on campus is friendly and conducive to learning. The Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science will add a great deal to the University and will be a unique learning experience for the KAMS students as they work to complete the curriculum and become actively involved with the research phase of the Academy.

I truly have been excited about the Academy since I initially heard about it. Our Academy students will have a tremendous impact on the future of our great state as they grow to become leaders. They will have a positive effect on the future economy of our state as they develop within the fields of medicine, math education, physics, biology, geo-sciences, and bio-sciences.

I strongly encourage students, parents, and others involved with and concerned about the educational opportunities in our state and in the future of our state to become actively involved in the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science. I look forward to hearing from you and if there is anything we can do for you please do not hesitate to contacts us.
