KAMS Director Update
Monday, February 9, 2009
Greetings from the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science. Your KAMS staff is forging ahead with the review of student applications. We ended up receiving 48 applications for the academy. A review committee has been set up and will conclude the initial review of these documents by Friday, February 27th. March 4th through March 13th will find Dr. Angela Bolte and myself conducting phone interviews of all students that have submitted a completed application. The week of March 16 to the following Wednesday March 25th will find the committee reviewing the information gathered in the phone interview process. On or about March 26th the committee will come together to have the final review of candidates. We are shooting for the date of Friday March 27th to begin extending offers to attend the Academy to the candidates.
As you recall, this is right on schedule with the dates we had shared with everyone we traveled around the state and brought students/parents into the preview day. After students have accepted the offer to attend KAMS, we will begin the work of coordinating everything with the sending schools.
All of the staff at KAMS is extremely excited to be in this phase of the development of the Academy as we move to get the pioneer class of KAMS students here for the ’09-’10 school year.
We really appreciate all of you for the help and support you gave the Academy in communications with Legislators and the governor. All of this would not have been possible without your assistance.
You’re always welcome to contact us and are always welcome to visit the Academy. We eagerly look forward to working with the KAMS students as they strive to complete this rigorous curriculum. Our students will become the next leaders of the state and will achieve great things as they develop as a person.
Again, thanks for your support and if there is anything that we can do for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
