Anniversary of Darwin’s Birth

Today, February 12th, is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.  Renown for his theory of natural selection, which forms the basis of contemporary evolutionary theory, Darwin’s work remains a vital part of biology today.

Darwin’s best known work is On the Origin of Species, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of its publication in 2009.  Even excluding his work on natural selection, Darwin was an important naturalist, biologist, and geologist and also a prolific writer.  Other important works by Darwin include Voyage of the Beagle, The Descent of Man, and The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals.
