Fires Fuel Climate Change

wildfireThe severity, size, and number of wildfires in the American West & Southwest and Australia in the past few years has been speculated to be due to climate change.  A new study on fires brings a neglected issue to light — the potential contribution of fires to climate change.  Since fire has been used by humans for centuries, it was thought to have little impact on climate change.  But, the use of fire on a massive scale is having an impact according to new research published in Science.  By adding massive amounts of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, fires have an impact that has not been taken into account.  For more information on this study, see here.
