Early Birds vs. Night Owls

owlA new study illustrates that, while early birds may be perky in the morning, night owls are able to stay alert longer.  In the study both sleep types where allowed to stay on their preferred sleep schedule, but were required to be awake for the same number of hours.  An hour and a half after waking, both types scored the same on tests that required their attention.  But, 10 hours after waking, the early birds did worse and were sleepier.  While modern work schedules may be better for early birds, nights owls do have more staying power.  For more information on this study, see here.
