Hello to all from the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science. We have 27 Kansas students who have accepted the invitation to attend KAMS’ “Pioneer” class. As we speak, we are in the middle of the admission process with the KAMS students.
We had 9 students here on campus on Monday, April 27th. Students went through the Admission and Residence Life process, received their Tiger ID cards and completed their Calculus Readiness Exam. In the afternoon Dr. Angela Bolte and Ann Ryan-Noble, KAMS staff members, were able to get the class schedules out to this first group of students. We have 10 students scheduled to go through the orientation process on campus Friday, May 1st, 5 on Friday, May 8th and the last 3 are scheduled the week of May 11th. Once the orientation process is complete, we will be that much closer to the start of the Academy in August.
Many Thanks goes out to the Registrar’s office, Admissions and Residence Life. They were AWESOME in assisting our KAMS students with the process.
We have a tremendous group of students that will make up this first ever KAMS class. They all bring some great attributes to the Academy and FHSU. Their talents are wide ranging and they will contribute positively to Fort Hays State University.
I hope you visit our ever-changing web-site and blog site often. Dr. Bolte keeps the blog site updated daily with some great information on things that are happening world wide in and around the area of science. Our blackboard site, which is linked to the web and blog-site has a place for potential students to respond. If you know of students who would be interested in the Academy, please steer then in this direction so that we have that initial contact.
During this week, we met with the service learning and leadership personnel from the University. They will be able to assist us in providing some excellent learning opportunities for the KAMS students. We have also been organizing our Information Sessions across the state in an effort to start recruiting the next class of KAMS students. Look for a session in your area and encourage potential Academy students to attend. If you have someone interested in the Academy, we would be happy to set-up a meeting with them to discuss KAMS.
Thanks again for your support of the Academy. Continue to spread the KAMS word in your daily travels. We would not be opening the doors of the Academy without your efforts. Our doors are always open and you are always welcome to stop by for a visit. We will be more than happy to update you on the progress of the Academy. We are proud of the fact that we will be able to assist with the education and development of our state’s future leaders.
