Blame Our Brains for the Current Financial Crisis?

brainWhen we eventually look back on the current financial crisis & evaluate all the reasons for it, perhaps we should place some blame on our brains.  A study conducted by Dr. Greg Burns, a neuroeconomist at Emory University illustrates that, when presented with advice from those purported to be experts, our brains essentially “shut off” and we blindly accept their advice.  When given presumed “expert advice,” brain scans of the participants showed a marked decrease in activity of those parts of the brain that evaluate risk.  So, be wary of expert advice because your brain may not be.  For more information on this study, see here.
