Horse Play Needs Adults for Good Social Development
A recent study by French researchers illustrates that the ratio of adult to young horses plays a critical role in their social development. In play groups with a low ratio of adults, young Przewalski horses bonded more closely together, bonding less with adult Przewalski horses, and were more aggressive. This study, when taken in conjunction with studies on the role adults play in song acquisition in song birds, points toward potential implications for human childhood development practices.
