ISS Crew Samples Recycled Water
Last week the crew of the International Space Station tasted their first sips of recycled sweat and urine. A U.S.-built water recycling system was installed in late 2008, but problems with the unit meant it could not be used until replacement parts were brought by shuttle in March. Samples were returned to Earth for testing and the all-clear was given last week for use by the ISS. This system is essential for expanding the size of the ISS crew from 3 to 6, as is planned.
