A new theory on our solar system’s asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter suggests it has a number of objects within it that actually originate from the edges of the solar system. These asteroids are typically thought to be rocky objects that originated close to their present locations.  But, researchers working at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, CO believe that approximately 20% of these asteroids are actually icy, comet-like objects that originated in the Kuiper asteroid belt.  For more on this theory, see Science Daily.
