The best meteor shower of 2009 is right around the corner.  The Geminid meteor shower is scheduled to peak on December 13th – 14th.  Maximum activity should occur around 11:10am in Kansas on Dec. 14th, but astronomers say the peak will be broad, lasting for hours.   Additionally, the shower could be around the maximum for days.  Viewing should be very good with a new moon keeping skies dark.  The Geminid meteor shower has been getting stronger for decades and this shower should also be strong, potentially topping 140 meteors per hour.
