The journey to create a 3-D map of Titanic begins

RMS TitanicA team of underwater archeologists, maritime engineers, technicians and explorers began their journey to explore and document the entire debris field of the Titanic, which sank on April 15, 1912.   Experts from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Phoenix International, the Waitt Institute and NOAA make up the team that set out to create a 3-D map of the wreck.  With the metal-eating life-forms and powerful currents the remains of the Titanic have been rapidly deteriorating.  The goal of this journey is to virtually preserve Titanic in its current state and to finally determine just how far gone the shipwreck is, and how long it might last.
